Winners in the SCNAA illustrate best practice examples of how forward-thinking municipalities are effectively leveraging technology and innovation to offer sustainable, new services and economic opportunities to meet the needs and expectations of diverse communities. The Alamo Colleges District has created campus support communities to address the academic and societal pressures that contribute to mental health issues (academic stress, familial stress, mental and physical health, financial stress, food insecurity, etc). Thanks to community partnerships that create “braided” resources that are woven into the fabric of the campuses, the district can provide critical services that truly address the difficult challenges faced by students and empower their success. Their IT infrastructure - powered by suppliers like Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise - is robust enough (high performance, reliable, easy-to-use, secure) to support these programs on-campus, remotely and in hybrid environments, providing accessibility to the people that need it most, even before they are in crisis.
Our annual Smart Cities North America Awards recognize the best of the best among smart city initiatives and unlike anything else in the industry, provide a blueprint for government officials looking to execute similar projects. We congratulate the winners on their unwavering dedication to executing compelling projects from start to finish – leveraging cutting edge technology to offer sustainable, new services and economic opportunities and enhancing the lives of citizens.
